The real issue with immigration reform is votes. Politicians need votes to keep their jobs. Gaining the goodwill of millions, by giving them a free pass into our country, would go a long way toward securing their positions. The issue for me is not jobs or a dislike of any group, but the security of my country. The current legislation has a statute of limitations of ten years. If you have been in the country illegally for over ten years the government cannot prosecute you. So lets think about that, if you came in illegally there is not going to be much documentation that you came in. So if someone came in illegally today, tomorrow they could just claim to have been here for the last ten years. No prosecution, nothing. What if this person was a criminal? There would be nothing we could do. I find it realy frustrating that most politicians main motivation is reelection and not the dutiful completion of their sworn duties.

I know that the topic that I am about to discuss is not the hot topic for today, but if you want info on the hot topic just check any of the major news outlets. The issue that I want to address is that those major news outlets continually cover things that are less than news. Just because something happens to a celebrity does not mean that it is news worthy. The really sad part is that there are news outlets designed to cover such stories and when I tune into those channels or shows then that is what I expect to see and hear. The thing that really upsets me is that the news outlets that claim to be about real news would deal in celebrity reporting.

These outlets do a disservice to the communities that they serve, by not informing the everyday American about what is going on in their country. People are sucked in by the hype and no one pays attention to what those running our country are doing.

For example there is new legislation that states that if you are going to travel out of the country you will need a passport. Well that is not happening. People are not getting their passports in a timely manner. It can take up to 10 weeks for them to process the passport. Talk about a delay. 10 weeks and some families are worried that they will not get their passports and be out thousands of dollars.

Now the government cannot even process passports for a law that was just passed. How do they think they are going to enforce any kind of new immigration reform. I don't like where this country is headed, do you?

I was called by a research group to complete a survey today. Normally I do not like taking survey's over the phone, but this one was about political issues. It was alright, but it got me thinking about what is important to the nation. I think one of big issues is the war is Iraq. The war effects every American and is an important issue. I for one believe in what we are doing in Iraq and that as long as we are over there, it is less likely that we will be attack here at home. That brings me to the next issue, Domestic security. Just recently a group of terrorists had plans to attack a military base. The only reason they did not was that they lacked the weapons. The big question I have is how did these people get into our contry? The answer is our border is about as hard to get through as a wet paper bag. If this is not a wake up call I do not know what is. Our borders need to be secured or our people will pay the price. I do not care about someone coming to our contry looking for a job. We need to make it harder for just anyone to cross our borders and do what they please. We are a sovereign nation and when it come to our borders we do not act like it. The final issue that I feel is important is economic. The government needs to tax us less. I know that the government needs money to operate, but much of what the goverment does is a waste of money. We need to encourgae people to work for themselves instead of creating a permanent lower class who has no motivation to participate in our economy. Who I vote for will probably be based for the most part on these issues.
